We often get asked why Nunalabs is focusing on liquid extracts. Water, the foundational building block of all life on earth, is the perfect medium to carry and deliver plant-power to customers all over the world. Alcohol is still one of the most effective mediums to extract a phytocompounds and is therefore used to extract and to preserve.
Better Retention of Phyto-compounds.
Liquid extracts are believed to better retain these volatile compounds, preserving their therapeutic properties. Some plant compounds, such as essential oils, are volatile and can be lost or degraded during processes with high temperatures, which are often used for other types of extracts.
At Nunalabs we take it one step further. Our entire production line is optimized for keeping the extracted solids of plants under the temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. By strictly monitoring our processes, we ensure that the chemical composition of the herbs do not change. This is how we ensure that our extracts are always loaded with plant properties, potent and true-to-nature.
Concentration control
Liquid extracts allow for precise dosing and concentration control. By adjusting the volume or number of drops, it is easier to achieve accurate dosage levels. This is true when you want to spike your morning coffee with a Maca extract, but also if you’re a beverage manufacturer and you need to know exactly how much extract is allowed per serving of Guayusa IPA.
We standardize our extracts for on dry-weight, which means that every extract customers receive will have a comparable consistency. Considering that we only work with pure natural ingredients, water and alcohol, there can be fluctuations in active compounds between batches.

Convenient and versatile
Liquid extracts can be easily added to beverages, such as water or juice, making them more convenient to consume.
(Even though our extract pastes have a thicker consistency, they are still easy to handle at a larger production scale. Read: how to handle our extract pastes)
Increased bioavailability
Our liquid extracts often have higher bioavailability compared to other forms of extracts.
Our extraction processes are carried out with ultrasound which break down the plant's cellular structure, making plant compounds flow out of the cells, and into our solvent.
Because the cell structures are already broken down, and the compounds that are extracted are ‘captured’ by water and alcohol, these compounds are more easily absorbed by the human body.
Extraction of a broader spectrum of compounds.
Many of our extracts liquid extracts are designed to capture the fullrange of phytochemicals that are present in the plant. By extracting a whole spectrum we increase synergy between compounds that are naturally present in the plant.
Customizable formulations
Liquid extracts allow for the combination of multiple plant extracts or the addition of other beneficial substances, allowing for the creation of tailored formulations to create a desired health effect.
